Ojibwa
Contextual Inquiry and Project Management Project. We studied the complication that was presented at that time on the process that allow Ojibwa language to be certified as a second language for high school students by the State of Michigan Department of Educatio, and made recommendation based on our studies, research and analysis.
Our client is focused on instructing students in Ojibwe, a native american language with origins in the state of Michigan. Due to the unique challenges that surround lesser known languages such as this one, it can be difficult to develop standards for language proficiency and to gain governmental approval when attempting to create assessment tools, curricula, and teacher certification standards.
Our team was asked to investigate the interaction of the Ojibwe language and literature program with the Michigan department of education, with the goal of determining the steps required to submit assessment tools for Ojibwe to the department of education. The scope of our project changed, however, as we learned that submission of assessment tools to the department of education is not actually required. Instead of focusing on those steps, therefore, we began to look for ways to improve Ojibwe's recognition by the Michigan department of education as a valid, measurable language.
